International Day of Persons with Disabilities!

Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities! To keep with this year’s theme of Sustainable Development: The Promise of Technology, we’re going to introduce our readers to a great website that that provides update to date news about technological advances in the disabled community. The website is http://www.disabilityscoop.com/living/technology/.

We would also like to link an article in particular about Shubham Banerjee and his success with Intel Capital’s decision to invest in his company for Braille printers. The now 13 year old’s efforts began last year as a home-built Lego project, and is now on the way to being a new cost-efficient Braille printer. Read more about this teenager’s success here: http://www.disabilityscoop.com/2014/11/14/teen-venture-capital/19847/.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities also strives to bring awareness and empowerment to the disabled community. To celebrate advances in legislature that promotes health and equality for disabled persons, we are providing a link to the White House’s updated laws: http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/disabilities. One point in particular that we’d like to address is the National Alzheimer’s Project Act, which establishes a National Alzheimer’s Project within the Department of Health and Human Services to assist with advancing the Alzheimer’s research, care, and services. Also, the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Act has been signed, which provides funding for screening, intervention, and research for hearing loss.
