Assistive Technology (AT) is any piece of equipment or system that allows individuals
to gain more functional Independence In their everyday lives. Adaptive equipment is a
subcategory of assistive technology which is described as a piece of equipment specifically
designed for individuals with disabilities. While enabling individuals to live a more productive
and healthier lifestyle, assistive technology promotes a life of independence and improvement in quality of life. There is assistive technology available for all occupations in which individuals engage, and it’s important to match the appropriate AT to each individual’s unique lifestyle, needs, and abilities to get the most use and benefit out of the equipment or software to improve a person’s well-being.
