Fine Motor Skills

Why are Fine Motor Skills Important?

Fine motor skills are what enable us to use our hands for important tasks such as writing, buttoning buttons or zipping a jacket, and picking up and using small objets. Fine motor skills play a role in many of the activities we engage in in our daily lives, so making sure these skills are sharp is a huge part of occupational therapy practice. There are many fun ways to work on these skills in the home too!

Fine Motor Activities

  1. Putting coins in a piggy bank

  2. Make bracelets or keychains by stringing beads

  3. Making paperclip chains

  4. Playing with Legos

  5. Building block towers
